2018 Porsche Cayenne vs. BMW X5 vs. Lexus RX 350
The luxury SUV segment is competitive, with the 2018 Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, and Lexus RX 350 at the forefront. When it comes to performance, safety, and technology features, there’s a clear winner among the three models.
While the 302-horsepower X5 and the 295-horsepower RX 350 are each designed with performance in mind, neither comes close to matching the power under the hood of the 2018 Porsche Cayenne. Standard on the Cayenne is a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission which, when combined, produce 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. While its two competitors match up at the base level, the Cayenne Turbo S’ 4.8-liter V8 blows the competition out of the water with 570 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The closest each of these vehicles can get to that much power is the X5 xDrive50i with a 445-horsepower turbo V8.
The interior cabins of these three models are fit for royalty, with stylish materials like leather-trimmed seating as well as high-tech infotainment. The BMW X5 and the Lexus RX 350 come standard with nine-speaker audio systems, while the Porsche Cayenne includes a 14-speaker BOSE® Surround Sound audio system with a subwoofer—on the base trim. This speaker system is standard across all trim levels. You can get an available Harman Kardon® sound system on the X5, but it requires upgrading to the highest trim level.
In any car, whether it’s a sports car or an athletic SUV, safety is a top priority. Many newer vehicles come with driver-assist features to help avoid accidents altogether. Unfortunately, the BMW X5 is lacking in this category, only offering a rear-view camera—an industry standard. The Lexus RX 350 offers its fair share of driver-assist technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control and a Head-Up Display. However, the Porsche Cayenne comes standard with front and rear Park Assist standard across all trim levels, including visual and acoustic warnings; Intuitive Park Assist is available on the Lexus RX 350, but it costs more to add.
There’s no doubt that the 2018 Porsche Cayenne comes out ahead of the pack. For more information about the Cayenne, visit us as Porsche of Spokane or call to schedule a test drive.
